Upgraded to Xubuntu 12.04 “Precise Pangolin”


Just a short post about the upgrade to Xubuntu 12.04 of my (old) Sempron 2400 desktop computer. As I started the computer this morning I got the usual Ubuntu upgrade “Invitation”

I started the upgrade program after a final window informing on operation to be performed and requesting for a last confirm the whole upgrade process started


the upgrade took about three hours: half an hour of package download, the rest to install and upgrade packages. All this time almost without my intervention: I've been only asked to stop xscreensaver in order to upgrade libc6 libraries and if gnome defaults.list file should be kept or replaced.

That's all: after rebooting the system seems to work as good as before, not many visible changes apart from the renewed boot and log-in screens; as I often repeat, when upgrading an old system: “no news good news”. Still there is a subtle pleasure in upgrading a 6 years old computer to a latest operating system version. You don't have to buy expensive branded hardware to make your computer last.

      Thanks for visiting Cipricus,

      I recently upgraded my hardware, I hope the new Acer will last as long as the old Sempron 2400. (If the hardware will not fail I'm sure I will ever find a Linux distribution for my PC)
